Culinary Oregano vs.
Ornamental
Culinary Oregano is a perennial herb from the mint family and is thought to be hardy to USDA zone 5 or 6. Many species have been selected for unique flavor traits. Sunland Nursery carries the "Spicy" and "Greek" types. Poliomintha, which is commonly known as Mexican Oregano, is stronger and more bitter than Origanum.
Ornamental Oregano has recently become popular as an herbaceous perennial because more showy varieties have been developed. Flowers range from pale pink to purple and can be small and delicate or large and shaped like hops. Most varieties are hardy to USDA zone 5.
